8-5 Records Are Like Assholes Cuz Everybodies Got One

The New England Patriots somehow managed to eek out a victory in Seattle by the skin of their proverbial teeth. The 24-21 victory was punctuated by a final scoring drive and a 2 point conversation caught by Wes Welker as Matt Cassel was impressive while coming up clutch in a tight situation. They pushed their record to 8-5 in the AFC East...only problem is that the New York Jets and the Miami Dolphins all possess the exact same record. The Patriots pretty much need to win out for the rest of the season to guarantee themselves a playoff spot. Either that or they need the Dolphins to start losing yesterday (the Jets have already dropped their last two games).

Matt Cassel has left the team for a while due to the death of his father and is doubtful for the game agaist the Oakland Raiders. Football be damned, it's just a game and some things are more important when compared to the passing of a loved one. In the event that Cassell doesn't return to the team in time to play they'll instead rely on rookie backup Kevin O'Connell to take the snaps under center. The Patriots find ways to win regardless of whose on the field so I wouldn't put it past them to pull out another possible win under those circumstances.

The trouble is that this season has had way more drama then any of us could've ever imagined. Injuries have plagued this squad all season long. Inconsistency has ravaged their offense and secondary. They couldn't stop anyone in the Red Zone all year and they settled for field goals way too much and yet they somehow find themselves at 8-5, tied for 1st in the AFC East with 3 games left in the season with a winnable game against the Raiders @ 4PM on Sunday in Oakland. I'm just gonna wait and see how things turn out on Sunday. Check me out during the week @ my regular spot Poisonous Paragraphs.

Rest in eternal peace to Greg Cassel.

One.
